I awoke, in Texas, bright and early to cross into Mexico and, on the advice of others who had experience travelling these parts of the world, get as far South from the border, and the crime near it, as I could in a day.
I had chosen a small border crossing just Northwest of Laredo, in Colombia, Texas, at the Solidarity International Bridge. Many online had recommended this crossing as being less trafficked and less hectic than the crossing at Laredo. I was nervous due to the numerous warnings I had been given, about cartel activity along the Texas-Mexico border, and about the “watchers” who supposedly watched borders to radio ahead in case someone wanted to intercept them for nefarious reasons.
